Hart Out
The Brewers have announced that Corey Hart will miss the first six weeks of the 2013 season to recover from knee surgery. Hart has issues with the same knee that he had issues with last spring. With Hart out Mat Gamel will be the guy at first base when Spring Training opens.
Brewers Reach Deals
The Brewers avoided arbitration with closer John Axford on Friday. The one-year deal is said to be worth about $5 million dollars. Pitchers Marco Estrada and Burke Badenhop also agreed to contracts to avoid arbitration and leave the Brewers with no unsigned players.
College Hoops
The Wisconsin Badgers take their 13-4 overall record and their 4-0 Big Ten mark to Iowa City tonight for a matchup with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa swept UW last season and sit 1-3 in Big Ten play. The tip is set for 7pm at Carver Hawkeye Arena. Marquette is also on the road tonight at Cincinnati. In the Horizon League, Green Bay hosts Cleveland State and Milwaukee hosts Youngstown State.
Bucks Out West
The Bucks wrapup their four game west coast road trip tonight in Portland. Milwaukee is 20-18 and sit in 3rd place in the NBA’s Central Division. The Blazers are 20-19 on the season.
NFL Conference Title Games
The Super Bowl will be set on Sunday as the NFC and AFC Championship Games are on the schedule. The NFC is the early game as #1 seed Atlanta hosts #2 seed San Francisco. In the AFC New England will play host to Baltimore. Coverage begins at 1pm with the NFC kickoff set for 2pm on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.
Fondy Hockey
Michael Wilson scored 4 goals as Fond du Lac stayed perfect in the Badgerland Conference with a 6-2 win over St. Mary’s Springs at the Blue Line Family Ice Center on Friday night. Fondy improves to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in Badgerland. St. Mary’s Springs drops to 9-7-1 overall and 4-2 in the conference. The Fond du Lac boys hockey team travels to Appleton tonight for a Badgerland Conference showdown with Appleton United. Both teams are unbeaten in league play. You’ll hear all the action on KFIZ and streaming at kfiz.com. Coverage begins at 7:35pm with the Backyard Grill Pregame Show. The puck drops at 8pm.
Fondy Hoops
Kaukauna outscored Fond du Lac 15-4 in the 2nd quarter to open up a 29-16 halftime lead and beat the Cardinals 59-49 on Friday night. Max Schebel and Joe Schorse paced Fondy with 12 points each. The Cards drop to 8-5 overall and 6-5 in FVA play. They host Appleton East on Tuesday night. You’ll hear the game on KFIZ.
