Packers Banged Up
The Green Bay Packers placed linebacker DJ Smith on Injured Reserve, officially ending his season on Wednesday. Smith was hurt in Sunday’s win over the Houston Texans. DL BJ Raji, WR Greg Jennigs, LB Nick Perry, and CB Sam Shields all sat out practice on Wednesday. It looks like Perry and Shields will miss Sunday’s game with the Rams. Rookie Casey Hayward and 2nd year man Davon House took the reps with the first team at corner in place of Sheilds. Aaron Rodgers was also limited at practice with a calf injury, leaving Graham Harrell to get the reps with the first team.
Rodgers Player of the Week
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his 6 TD game against Houston on Sunday night.
Baseball
The St. Louis Cardinals stopped the Giants 3-1 to take a two games to one lead in the National League Championship Series on Wednesday. The teams sat through a 3.5 hour rain delay. Matt Carpenter hit a two-run homer to notch pace the offense. Game 4 of the series is tonight. Mother Nature won on the American League side, postponing Game 4 of the ALCS with Detroit leading the series 3 games to none. They will play this afternoon.
Brewers Moves
Pitcher Livan Hernandez and catcher Yorvit Torrealba refused assignments to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday, making the unrestricted free agents. Hernandez was signed mid-season by the Brewers and Torrealba came to the Brewers in late September in exchange for cash. RHP Jesus Sanchez was added to the 40 man roster from Triple-A.
A-Rod To Miami?
With Alex Rodriguez falling out of favor in New York, rumors are swirling that the Yankees may open trade talks with the Miami Marlins to send him his hometown in South Florida during his offseason.
Henson Out For Bucks
Bucks first round draft pick John Henson will miss the next two weeks as he recovers from a sprained knee and a bone bruise suffered in Tuesday’s preseason loss to the Bulls
Fondy Well Represented on All VFA-South Team
The Fond du Lac Cardinals had two players make the All Valley Football Association Southern Division Team. WR John Gaskell and Guard Ben Maruska both made the first team. Gaskell led the VFA in receiving with 48 catches for 667 yards and 8 TD and was named the WR/TE of the Year. Center Sawyer Mitchell, tackle Mike Theis, RB George McEnroe, and inside linebacker Jason Toshner wre all 2nd team All-VFA South Division. Guard Andy Koerwitz, DL Cory Steffes, and CB Brian Schlagenhaft were all Honorable Mention All-VFA.
