The sun and ice crystals in the sky put on a great display Monday morning

A half-halo along with two “Sun Dogs” appeared with the morning sunrise Monday, January 19, 2026.

Scientifically known as a parhelion, it’s formed by sunlight refracting through hexagonal ice crystals in high-altitude clouds, appearing as a bright, sometimes colored, patch of light on either side of the sun, often as part of a larger 22° halo.
