Trump announces plans to aid Tornado ravaged area of Fox Valley with part of $18 million in funds

President Donald Trump says nearly $18 million in federal disaster assistance is coming to Wisconsin following the severe storms and tornadoes that struck the state July 27th.

Trump announced 17-point-9 million dollars in aid Wednesday for communities in Winnebago, Outagamie, Vilas and Forest counties.

The July storms included the EF-3 tornado that tore through parts of the Fox Valley, including Appleton and Menasha.

Damage assessments found more than 23-hundred residential structures affected, with 84 destroyed and another 412 suffering major damage.

Public-sector damage was estimated at nearly 14 million dollars, while residential damage topped 8-point-2 million.

There is still some uncertainty about exactly when the federal money will become available. As of Wednesday, Wisconsin officials said they had not received detailed information from FEMA about the announcement.

Wisconsin Congressman Glen Grothman released a statement regarding the aid…

“Thank you to President Trump for supporting Wisconsin’s recovery. I was proud to lead our bipartisan congressional delegation in urging federal support following the devastating July storms and tornado. Local officials, first responders, and community members have worked hard to help their communities recover, and federal assistance can help build on those efforts. I especially want to thank the volunteers who have given their time to help neighbors clean up and begin rebuilding. Their generosity reflects the best of Wisconsin.”

Senator Kristin Dassler-Alfheim of the Fox Valley area stated,

“I appreciate the President making this announcement – the tornado in July was devastating, and federal assistance is absolutely necessary to help the Fox Valley recover. We are still waiting for official confirmation from federal officials regarding the distribution of these funds to the state and what the timeline and other details of that process will be,”
