Two people – pets displaced by attached garage fire
On the evening of January 15, 2026, at 11:47p.m., Fond du Lac Fire Rescue was dispatched to 300 Star Street for a report of a garage on fire.
It was reported that the garage was attached to the house and the fire may have started near a wood burner.
Upon arrival crews found the attached garage on fire as well as the attic space above. Fire Companies quickly knocked the fire down, but heavy damage had already occurred to the home, mainly in the attic above the garage. All residents and several pets were able to safely exit the structure prior to Fond du Lac Fire Rescue arrival.
The fire was quickly knocked down and brought under control within 15 minutes, and no other structures were affected. There were no civilian or fire department injuries reported. Alliant Energy was called to the scene to shut down utilities to the residence. The Red Cross was contacted to assist the occupants as the house is currently deemed uninhabitable.
Smoke detectors were present; however, none were in working order. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue would like to remind all residents to regularly change batteries and test smoke detectors in their homes. Smoke detectors should be placed on all floors and in all bedrooms.
Fire investigators will be working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. FDL Police Department assisted with scene and traffic control.
