Waupun’s Werner Harmsen Funeral Home acquires Dodge and Green Lake County funeral homes

Werner Harmsen Funeral Home, based in Waupun, announced Wednesday, November 5, 2025, that Cornerstone Funeral and Cremation Services, with locations in Beaver Dam and Markesan, has joined the family of Werner Harmsen funeral homes.

Werner Harmsen says the merger demonstrates their commitment to preserving local, family-owned and operated funeral homes that provide compassionate care, rooted in the communities in which it operates.

As part of the merger, Cornerstone funeral directors and staff will transition employment to Werner Harmsen and continue to serve existing and new families. Both facilities will maintain the Cornerstone Funeral Home name with the Markesan location undergoing interior renovations.

Last spring Werner Harmsen acquired Kratz Smedema Funeral Home in Cambria.

With both acquisitions its service area will expand to cover more of Fond du Lac, Dodge, Columbia and Green Lake Counties.

Werner Harmsen Funeral Home will host a community open house at the Markesan location when renovations are complete.
