Wendt’s on the Lake restaurant to close in November

A longtime Fond du Lac area favorite dining destination is preparing to close its doors after nearly 65 years in business.

Wendt’s on the Lake Restaurant in Van Dyne has announced it will permanently close on November 21, 2026.

The family-owned and operated restaurant has been a fixture in the community for generations, serving customers and supporting local organizations.

In an announcement made yesterday, a member of the Wendt family said efforts to arrange a sale of the property had been unsuccessful. The statement describes disagreements among family members over purchase agreements, pricing and the terms of a potential sale.

The restaurant’s departure will be felt beyond its dining room. The announcement recognizes the restaurant’s connections with community groups, including the West Shore Fishing Club, Sturgeon For Tomorrow, Water & Wings Youth Foundation, Lake Watchers, the Van Dyne Lions Club and the Van Dyne Fire Department.

The family thanked the restaurant’s loyal customers and staff for their years of support.

It was noted, Wendt’s Marina will remain open. The closure applies only to Wendt’s on the Lake Restaurant.
