Why the sudden gas price hike?

If you’ve filled up your gas tank this week, you may have noticed a steep price increase. The price of a gallon of gas locally went up 20 cents over the past week to $3.09 and nationally, the average for a gallon of gas is up to $3.28.

Experts say this should be a temporary increase and is due to the shutdown of a massive BP refinery in Indiana that’s been offline for more than two weeks due to a power outage.

The problem should be fixed soon, and then gas prices will likely go back to moving at a more predictable pace.
