Wildland fire danger reaches extreme levels over part of state

The continued stretch of dry weather has most of the state of Wisconsin under a high to extreme risk of wildland fires, according to the Wisconsin DNR.

As of Tuesday, May 13, 2025, East Central Wisconsin, including Fond du Lac County is in the high risk area, while central Wisconsin is under a very high risk. The northern third of the state is under an extreme fire risk, the departments highest risk category on their five tier chart.

The DNR says conditions at these levels means fires can start and spread easily, and are hard to get under control.

Anyone with plans to do any outside burning should wait a couple days as rain is likely in the forecast which will lower any outdoor fire risks.
