Winter is screaming back into the area

We’ve all seen the memes showing the progressions of seasons in Wisconsin. Most show a time frame of “False Spring” which we had this last weekend into Monday.

Temperatures were much above average, but the funny thing about averages is, in order to attain them, you need to have temperatures equally below the average. That’s how averages are computed. So after having our much above normal temperatures, its now time to see the other side of the coin.

Add in a snowstorm, and Winter is back in session.

Mother Nature is being nice enough to ease us back in slowly however, with two mediocre weather systems giving us some mixed weather precipitation and a somewhat subtle temperature decline… But don’t let your guard down. The bottom is about to fall out. That is if models have anything to say about it.

Starting Saturday night and heading into Sunday, somewhere in Wisconsin has the potential of heavy snowfall. It’s too early to “announce” potential totals, but forecast models are showing jaw dropping, almost comical snowfall totals in the area.

Given the hype many “social media weather folks” rely on to get clicks, I can almost guarantee you will see these model depictions showing these outlandish snowfall totals. PLEASE take them with a grain of salt. Don’t panic, and don’t share these maps… yet. These are not real forecasts. These are just maps of weather data that are almost certain to change drastically as the time draws closer.

Your best bet is to follow the National Weather Service and our forecasts here at KFIZ as the timeframe of the storm nears.

And after this weekend storm passes, we could be seeing low temperatures in the single digits with below 0 windchills.

But don’t fret… we are on the tail end of winter, with warm weather just around the corner.
