Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board of Control Commits Long-Term Support to WIAA Foundation

The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) Foundation announced today that the WIAA Board of Control has approved a five-year financial commitment to the Foundation, reinforcing the Association’s long-term investment in education-based athletics across Wisconsin.

Under the action taken by the Board of Control at its meeting last week, the WIAA will contribute $10,000 annually to the WIAA Foundation through the 2029-30 school year, for a total commitment of $50,000.

The commitment underscores the WIAA’s support for the Foundation’s mission to enhance, support, and collaborate with education-based athletics of WIAA member schools and their student-athletes through grants, programs, scholarships, and related resources.

“This action by the Board of Control demonstrates a strong and meaningful commitment to the future of the WIAA Foundation and the student-athletes it serves,” said WIAA Executive Director Stephanie Hauser. “By making a multi-year investment, the Association is helping ensure the Foundation has the stability and capacity needed to grow its impact for schools, programs, officials, and communities across Wisconsin.”

“This commitment sends a clear message about the importance of sustaining and strengthening education-based athletics for the long term,” said Dave Steavpack, President of the WIAA Foundation Board of Directors. “As a former WIAA Board of Control member and a longtime school athletic administrator, I understand how critical consistent, mission-driven support is for student-athletes, programs, and officials. This investment provides a strong foundation for the work ahead.”

The WIAA Foundation serves Wisconsin’s extensive high school athletic community, which includes more than 510 member schools, approximately 185,000 student-athletes, and 10,000 licensed officials across 27 sports programs.

The Foundation focuses its work on three core impact areas:

  • Athletic Programs: supporting and enhancing high school athletic programs across Wisconsin by providing grants and funding opportunities for program expansion and sustainability.
  • Risk Minimization: advancing resources and initiatives that promote the safety and well-being of WIAA student-athletes.
  • Officials Development: expanding educational and training opportunities for WIAA-licensed officials to support recruitment, retention, and professional development.

The annual contribution from the WIAA will support the Foundation’s ability to raise and distribute resources that strengthen education-based athletics statewide, complementing private donations and other philanthropic support.

“The WIAA Foundation’s Board of Directors are very grateful for and appreciative of the WIAA Board of Control’s generous annual $10,000 donation,” Dave Ring, Kwik Trip Community & Government Relations Manager and WIAA Foundation Board Member said. “This meaningful support reflects our shared commitment to providing opportunities and resources that positively impact our student athletes, athletic departments, and referees across the state.”
