Wisconsin Street bridge (WIS 44) improvements coming in Oshkosh

Work will begin next month on the Wisconsin Street bridge in Oshkosh.

Governor Tony Evers has approved a $1.27 million contract to clean and repaint the structural steel on the movable span of the Highway 44 bridge over the Fox River.

Work is scheduled to begin October 8, 2026, and continue through the end of March.

The bridge will remain open to traffic, with at least one lane open in each direction. At least one sidewalk will also remain open.

The project also includes replacing the pedestrian gates.

The Wisconsin DOT says the new protective coating is designed to slow corrosion and extend the service life of the bridge.

There will also be restrictions on marine traffic beneath the bridge while scaffolding is in place.
