KFIZ up for multiple Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards for Excellence

The results are in for this year’s picks for the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards for Excellence, and while we don’t know exactly what place we received, we do know that KFIZ has a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place in multiple categories.

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards for Excellence are organized as an annual peer-judged competition for member radio/TV stations, focused on reporting, community service, and production quality. Stations submit entries in various categories for judging, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners honored at a Gala each May. This year’s event takes place Saturday, May 2, 2026.

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association generally categorize stations into three distinct market sizes to ensure fair competition. The categories are:

  • Large Market: Primarily includes the Milwaukee market.
  • Medium Market: Typically includes Green Bay and Madison markets.
  • Small Market: Generally includes Wausau/Rhinelander and LaCrosse/Eau Claire markets.

KFIZ falls into the Medium Market.

This year KFIZ is in the running for breaking News, sports, website, and community content.

More specifically, the picks are for “Best Digital Breaking News Coverage” of a pursuit and crash in downtown Fond du Lac with aftermath photo gallery of the turmoil that occurred.

Also in the “Best Digital Breaking News Coverage” category is a photo gallery of News Director Doug Raflik’s storm chase of a rotating supercell thunderstorm in Dane County in June of last year…

Best Significant Community Impact award for the KFIZ Halloween Party.

Best Sports Play By Play for the Laconia Lady Spartans Sectional Final game.

Best Sportscast for KFIZ Morning Sports with Chuck Freimund.

And Best Website for KFIZ.com.

In addition to KFIZ’s awards, our sister station 107.1 The Bull is up for three awards:

Best Digital Creator for The Bull Pen with Chandra Lynn and Guy David.

Best Significant Community Impact for Fond du Lac County Veterans Park Project.

And Best Use of Audio (Non-News) for The Bull Pen with Chandra Lynn and Guy David.

This year will be the 75th anniversary of the The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Awards for Excellence.
